ST. PIUS X BOYS NATIONAL SCHOOL
Dear Parents/ Guardians,
Fíorchaoin fáilte ar ais roimh cách. I would like to extend a warm welcome to all parents and their children and wish you all a Happy (Academic) New Year.
NEW ENTRANTS: We are delighted at how well our new infants have settled in. We are extremely fortunate to have three fully trained experienced teachers to provide a comprehensive holistic education for the children in this very important year of their school life.
NEW APPOINTMENTS: Four newly appointed teachers Brian Dillon, David Gough, Deirdre Breathnach and Grainne Corcoran have joined our staff and in welcoming them we would like to wish them every success and happiness in their new careers. We know they will be a tremendous asset to our school.
We would also like to extend a warm welcome to our new school secretary Karen Reddy. We hope she will be very happy and enjoy being with us.
STAFF MEETING: A staff meeting will take place on Friday, 21st September. Children should be collected at 12.00p.m.. This meeting will be preceded by mass @ 11.00am in the church of St. Pius X and will be attended by children from 2nd to 6th class. All parents are welcome.
GAELIC FOOTBALL: For the first time ever in the history of St. Pius X we have entered three Gaelic football teams into the Cumann na mBunscol (Primary School League). Competing alongside our Senior team in these fixtures are two Junior Teams, “Junior Navy” and “Junior Green”. This is evidence of the huge interest and ability shown by our players and coaches, Lorcan Coyle, Kenneth Kerins, Ian Matthews, Deirdre Breathnach and David Gough. It also demonstrates the success of the Gaelic Football project which has been in operation in the school over the last two years. Apart from tournaments, leagues and skills programmes that are organized by the coaching teachers within the term, we are fortunate to have the services of Templeogue Synge St’s GPO, Aisling Farrelly. Aisling now coaches our Senior Infants, Ist and 2nd classes on a weekly basis, sowing the seeds of which we will hopefully reap the harvest in years to come.
CHOIR: We would like to welcome all our choir boys back. Ms. Purcell is delighted with the number of new recruits from third class. We wish them all a happy musical new year and continued success.
GOLF: Valerie O’Nualain and Vincent Ryan will commence golf lessons in the Spawell Pitch and Putt/Driving Range for 6th class boys on Tuesday 25th September and continue through October. We will take a break for the winter months and resume in Spring in preparation for the Castle Cup at the end of May.
PUPIL UP DATE FORMS: Please find attached Pupil Update Forms and we would ask you to return these as soon as possible. It is essential that we keep our records up to date in order to ensure that we can make contact with you in an emergency.
CYCLING: Cycling, skateboarding, rollerblading etc are not permitted in the school playground at any time.
RE-CYCLING: Old mobile phones and print cartridges can be handed in at school and be exchanged for IT equipment.
PARENTS ASSOCIATION: We are fortunate to have an enthusiastic and supportive Parents Association. They provide a wealth of extra activities for the children. Enrolment for these will take place on Saturday 15th September in the School Hall. Enrolment forms have been handed out to the children.
SCHOOL UNIFORMS: Margo from O’Sullivan School wear will also be in the School Staff Room on Saturday, 15th September for the School Uniform Sale.
APPOINTMENTS WITH TEACHERS: Should you wish to discuss any matter with your child’s teacher please arrange an appointment with Ms. Reddy in the office. This will allow the teacher to arrange suitable supervision and planning of class work.
CONTRIBUTIONS: Thank you to those of you who have sent in your voluntary contribution already and could this be a subtle reminder to those who have not. This money is essential to enable us to provide the best possible educational facilities for your child.
Wishing everybody a happy, healthy and hardworking term.
Guím gach rath agus beannacht ar na daltaí, na múinteoirí, na tuismitheoirí agus gach éinne a bhfuil baint acu leis an scoil. Táim cinnte go mbeidh bliain thar barr againn go léir.
